The above mentioned area is located in the famous Namib Naukluft Park.
The idea behind the establishment of the initial portion of the park, when created, was to conserve the fauna and flora around the coastal towns and areas covering the Namib gravel Plains and was thus proclaimed in 1968 as the Namib Desert Park.
Following the developments leading up to the proclamation and the Amalgamation, [Namib Desert Park & Naukluft Mountain Zebra Park, the idea with this Park was to create a sanctuary to safeguard the rare and endangered Hartmann’s mountain Zebra.] Portions of land bought from farmers were added to form part of the park. This amalgamated area serves as continuous conservation known as Namib-Naukluft Park with the size of 23 340sqkm. Portions of Diamond areas 1 and 2 were added in 1986 to the mentioned part increasing the size of the Park to colossal 49 768sqkm making it the third largest park in Africa.
