The road which will be used runs through the Spreetshoogte Pass, the deepest in the country, connects the Plateau with the Namib Desert descending/ascending approximately 1000m down from the top to the bottom of the Namib Desert. This road offers spectacular views from the top. This spectacular views are a rarity and is a paradise for nature lovers and photographers.

One of the main attraction and highlight of the tour is the visit to Sossusvlei which is in the heart of the Namib Sand Sea located in the Namib Desert, the oldest desert on earth with some of the highest and breathtaking Dunes in the world. The Namib Sand Sea is the second UNESCO World Heritage Site in Namibia. Namibia was accorded this recognition by the Convention in 2013. The above mentioned area is located in the famous Namib Naukluft Park.

The idea behind the establishment of the initial portion of the park, when created, was to conserve the fauna and flora around the coastal towns and areas covering the Namib gravel Plains and was thus proclaimed in 1968 as The Namib Desert Park.

Following the developments leading up to the proclamation and the Amalgamation, [Namib Desert Park & Naukluft Mountain Zebra Park, the idea with this Park was to create a sanctuary to safeguard the rare and endangered Hartmann’s mountain Zebra.]. Portions of land bought from farmers were added to form part of the park. This amalgamated area serves as continuous conservation known as Namib- Naukluft Park with the size of 23 340sqkm. Portions of Diamond areas 1 and 2 were added in 1986 to the mentioned part increasing the size of the Park to colossal 49 768sqkm making it the third largest park in Africa.

Other highlights and attractions on the way to Swakopmund are Gaub Pass as well as Kuiseb Pass & Canyon and driving through the Namib gravel plains. One of the most popular and famous attractions in the coastal area includes the iconic Lagoon and the Wetlands recognized and protected by Ramsar Convention since 1995 even though it is believed, it to be more than 5000 years old. This Wetlands is located in the only deep sea harbour town of the country, namely Walvis bay. Salt Works is also found next to the Lagoon area.

Swakopmund is the official holiday Resort, and the political Capital of the Region. It is also popular international movie making location. There are legio of attractions around these coastal towns, like Dune 7, Living Desert creatures, Sandwich Harbour, Moon landscape, Welwitschia Mirabilis, etc. etc. The local tour operators are offering whole range of very attractive activities.

Spitzkoppe (Klein- & Gross Spitzkoppe) Mountains fondly referred to as the “Matterhorn of Namibia” are Inselbergs with the bald Granite Peaks that are believed to be approximately 120 million years old. Places of interest at the Mountains are the secret Caves as well as he Bushman Artwork/Engravings. They are situated some 80km away from Swakopmund in the Namib Desert gravel plains close to Usakos on the B2 National Highway to Okahandja where we find the popular Open Air Street Craft Market as an attraction.
